Management measures for species and habitats
are an integral part of the One Nature project. In 2021, more than a thousand different measures in dozens of European protected areas in the Czech Republic were carried out. In total, the owners, tenants or selected contractors implemented measures to support 22 European protected species and 27 natural habitats on an area of 848 hectares in 84 sites of European importance (EVL) and bird areas (PO).
You will find some specific examples on the Project measures in the landscape in 2021 page.
Protected Areas
There are hundreds of naturally valuable areas in the Czech Republic. Most of them must be actively managed and protected for the benefit of future generations. Many of them are of European importance and have been included in the Natura 2000 network.

Protected Areas Management
Each area requires a different kind of management. Only measures to maintain or, if possible, to improve the status of natural phenomena, a particular habitat or a plant or animal living in such an area are carried out. In addition to the usual management measures (e.g. mowing, grazing, wetland renewal), it is also possible to encounter less common measures, such as coppicing or forest grazing.

Benefits of Protected Areas
Various naturally valuable areas benefit people, for example as a source of different types of materials, possibilities for recreation and relaxation, or other ecosystem services. When properly managed, protected areas also contribute to mitigating the climate change impact or become a natural defensive mechanism against the effects of drought or floods.
More information>PROJECT GOALS

- Setting management priorities for the particular species and natural habitats.
- Cooperation with the major land owners and users.
- Implementation of appropriate measures to maintain or improve the status of habitats and species.
- Introduction of a management effectiveness evaluation at selected sites.
- Updating the management plans.
- Assessment of the benefits provided by the protected areas of the Natura 2000 network and of the costs associated with conservation efforts in these areas.
- Providing examples of good practice in site management.
- Effective use of funding resources available for site management.
- Providing the project outputs to public administration in the form of recommendations for practice.
- Informing the public about the objectives and methods of protected area conservation, its benefits and costs.
