In the second half of May 2021, researchers from the Global Change Research Institute (CzechGlobe) and the Charles University Environment Centre, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic, organized another four webinars for institutions that can use the results of ecosystem services evaluation attained within the One Nature project in their work. They followed the first round of participatory meetings arranged through semi-structured interviews in 2020. The aim of the meetings was to present to the participants in particular the concept of ecosystem services (the benefits of nature for people) and the way we work with this concept in the One Nature project.
From the webinar about ecosystem services evaluation in the One Nature project
A large part of the online meeting was an interactive discussion about the possibilities and ways of using the evaluation of specific ecosystem services in terms of the methods, scale or type of the used values.
Altogether 38 representatives of different institutions participated in the webinars; e.g. experts from ministries and other state administration authorities, territorial and local administrations, agricultural, fishing and forestry institutions and non-profit organizations, universities and other research institutions.
Examples of prioritization of benefits for the evaluation from one of the webinars
During the discussion, there were many inspiring opinions and ideas that are valuable and important sources for further direction of the project´s outputs in the field of ecosystem services evaluation. We will also use the experience and information from the webinars in other participatory meetings and also in the establishment of the National Ecosystem Services Platform, which we plan to establish in 2022.
